ABOUT David ZenJazzDancer (Login to Contact David ZenJazzDancer )

I would like to find a regular dance practice partner. I'm mainly interested in Savoy and Smooth Lindy and Bal-Swing. I like to remember Zen Master Hakuin's saying "Singing and dancing are the voice of the Dharma." See, for example: http://www.thezensite.com/ZenTeachings/Translations/Song_of_Zazen.htm See you in class!

I learned the Virginia Reel contra dance in 5th grade danced to the song "Oh Johnny Oh," learned jitterbug, cha-cha, fox-trot, and waltz in junior high school and won a Fabian 45 rpm record for cha-cha. I don't remember what songs were on the record. In the 1970s and 1980s, I did square dancing and contra dancing at GWU, St. Alban's School for Boys at the National Cathedral, and Glen Echo. Took lessons from Tom & Debra in 2001 and again in 2006. Also lessons with David Rehm, Donna Barker and Mike Marcotte, Hutch and other teachers at The Vienna Tap Room, Dabe & Janelle, and lots of workshops. Didn't go to dances much. Took WCS lessons from Ed and Gail at Colvin Run and Lara Deni in early 2016. Started beginner classes with Sue & Gary in May 2016. Started going to dances every Friday at Dulles Hilton and sometimes at Glen Echo on Saturdays. I have continued with intermediate classes with Sue & Gary and going to dances.

Vegan advocate and back line activist; opportunistic photographer, but mainly interested in photographing patterns, nature, animals, thing people usually overlook; I only photograph people from the back; former performing musician and songwriter for 59 years (jazz, rock, pop, folk, blues, R&B); performed at a few GottaSwing dances. I enjoy walking in nature and petting animals. Other interests: nonduality, consciousness, meditation, techno-shamanism, science fiction. I have several websites showcasing my interests. I have worked as a computer programmer/analyst since 1981; have been developing database web applications since 1997.
